Sam Snell (1998)

Served with Victoria Police 1936 to 1966

Sam served Victoria Police with distinction and he was awarded a Bronze Medal for Bravery during the course of his duty.

He was an all round sportsman and excelled in football, golf, athletics and lawn bowls. He played 93 VFL/AFL games with St Kilda between 1936-40 and 1944-45 and was awarded Life Membership of the club in 1945. He represented the VFL in 1937 and 38. In 1997 he was named in the St Kilda list of 100 champions of the last 100 years called "Hero's with Halo's".

Sam was an excellent athlete who won a number of professional sprint foot races throughout Victoria.

He was an outstanding lawn bowler having won an array of club, pairs, triples and four's championships. He twice represented Victoria in the 1980's.

As a golfer Sam won numerous club championships and annual tournaments. 

 

Sam was inducted into the Victoria Police Sporting Hall of Fame in 1998.
