Deanne Butler (2013)

 Joined Victoria Police in 2001 and still serving at the time of induction, 2013. 

Deanne represented the Australian Opals National Basketball Team at the 2005 FIBA Oceania Women’s Championships. She was the first Policewoman to represent Australia at this level.

Also in 2005 Deanne was the first Australian Policewoman to play in the European competition with Soller in Spain and then in 2007 with Famila Schio leading her Italian team to win the European Cup.  

Deanne represented the Country Victoria State Team on four occasions. Her ability was recognised during this time and she received an Australian Institute of Sport Scholarship.  In 2003, she was awarded the U23 Australian Youth Player of the Year.

In the South Eastern Australia Basketball League she was selected on three occasions in the All Star 5 and achieved dual championships with the Bendigo Lady Braves in 2006-2007. 

Deanne retired in 2011 after playing 251 ‘Women’s National Basketball League’ (WNBL) games with 5 teams, winning a championship with the AIS and ‘Life Membership’ of the WNBL.

 

Deanne was inducted into the Victoria Police Sporting Hall of Fame in 2013.
