The Victorian Hellenic Police Association (VHPA) was established in 1996. The VHPA was initially formed to provide a formal link between Greek-Australian Victoria Police Officers and the Victorian Greek-Australian Multicultural Community.
In 2017 the VHPA re-launched to include all Victoria Police employees: Police, Protective Services Officers, Victorian Public Service Staff, Police Custody Officers, retired VicPol employees and the Australian Federal Police.
Victoria Police has approximately 440 employees of Greek-Australian heritage who make a significant contribution to the Victorian Community.
The VHPA contributes to Victoria Police's capability by working closely with the Greek community of Victoria. Some of the key principals which still stand today are to:
• Promote multiculturalism and the profile of Victoria Police within ethnic communities
• Promote good community relations in support of Greek – Australian cultural and community events
• Share and promote common religious and cultural heritage
• Support Greek-Australian charity groups and community services
