Games History

The Victoria Police Games were first conducted in 1981 when approximately 500 competitors contested seven sports. The Police Games were originally only open to serving, ‘sworn' members of Victoria Police.

The 1983 Victoria Police Games included the first National Police Games which became the Australia & New Zealand Police Games in 1986, and then the Australasian Police & Emergency Services Games in 2008.

Over the years the Victoria Police Games Federation extended the eligibility criteria of the Victoria Police Games to include sworn, unsworn and retired members of Victoria Police, and emergency service workers from 21 other agencies further including CFA, SES and Coast Guard volunteers. A list of these agencies can be found in our ‘Entry Information' book and on our website: www.emergencyservicesgames.org.au

In 2002 the Victoria Police Games were re-named the Victoria Police and Emergency Services Games. At the most recent Games in 2013, 40 different sporting disciplines attracted 2,800 competitors.
