Garry John Schipper (2003)
Garry joined Victoria Police in 1962, and at the time of induction in 2003 he was a serving member. Garry commenced Offshore Yacht Racing on Port Phillip Bay in 1972 and in 1976 was on board 'MONSOON' the overall winner of the Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race. He has been a crew member of yachts representing Victoria or Australian teams since 1985.
In 1987 Garry was a member of the crew 'ULTIMATE CHALLENGE' that represented Australia and came third in the Admirals Cup, and competed in the 1991 cup on board 'CYCLONE'.
Garry represented Australia in the Kenwood Cup in Hawaii on three occasions and has been a member of numerous Southern Cross Cup Teams. In the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race he has an outstanding record, having been on board 'ULTIMATE CHALLENGE' when it won in 1989, and was second in 1991. In 2001 he was on board 'VOLTAIR' winner of the overall PHS Division.
Garry was inducted into the Victoria Police Sporting Hall of Fame in 2003.
